CLASSES

Q

How long are the classes?

A

Classes are the same length as the Gnomon School's classes. These are either 10 weeks or 5 weeks in length. This depends on the class type but the majority of classes are 10 weeks.

Q

How long is each lecture?

A

Lectures can range from 2 to 3 hours in length per week. Some lectures may contain addendums to the lecture that may push the lecture time over 3 hours.

Q

Will I be required to do homework?

A

Yes. You can expect to spend at least 7-10 hours per week on homework. This time is spent on weekly assignments, research, tests and final project submissions.

Q

Do I get feedback?

A

Absolutely. Instructor(s) will review your homework assignments and provide a critique in the form of video, text, and or email.

Q

How much time can I expect to devote to a class?

A

You should expect to spend 95 to 130 hour of time towards each class over the course of a term.

Q

What equipment will I need to take classes?

A

Students will be responsible for supplying their own computer equipment, software, broadband internet access, and other materials for assignments. The majority of classes will be taught in Maya, however see specific software requirements for each class. Students may purchase educational versions of most software through Studica.com only after student verification is completed.

Q

Will I receive a diploma or certificate after taking classes with Gnomon Online?

A

No. At this time, we do not offer any diploma or certificate for taking online classes. The only certificates/diplomas we currently grant are for completion of our "High-End CG Certificate Program" and our "Maya Fast Track Program". Both programs are currently only being offered at our physical location.

Q

Where can I find more information about Gnomon and its Programs?

A

Visit www.gnomon3d.com for more information

LOANS

Q

Can I apply for student loans while taking classes at Gnomon Online?

A

Yes. Student Loans are available in the form of a Career Training Loan through SLM Financial, a Sallie Mae Company. Please contact Gnomon for qualifications.

FINANCIAL AID

Q

Gnomon offers Federal Financial Aid; Can I apply for this when taking class at GnomonOnline?

A

Under the Department of Education restrictions, only students enrolled in Gnomon’s High-End CG Certificate Program are eligible for Financial Aid. The majority of these classes are taken at the Hollywood campus but students in this program can take a portion of these classes online. Click here for program details.

CG CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Q

Can students enrolled in the High End CG Certificate Program take classes online?

A

Yes, however the majority of the classes will still be held at Gnomon’s Campus. This is due to the fact that several classes are better presented in a live and interactive lecture / demo format.

VIDEO LECTURES

Q

What do I need to view the lecture movies?

A

QuickTime 7 (or higher) is required and runs on Macintosh and Windows computers. QuickTime 7 requires the following: Windows PC XP, or 2000; Macintosh OSX 10.3 or higher.

Q

Which internet browser do I need?

A

Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or higher is required for the best viewing experience

Q

What type of QuickTime video are the lectures delivered in?

A

Our lecture movies are delivered using QuickTime H.264 compression in a “Progressive” format… not streaming. This means that you are able to watch the movies as they are downloaded, but delays can occur. With this format, the movie quality remains extremely clean and consistent.

In a streaming format, data is often degraded or dropped if your connection becomes inconsistent. For our purpose, this is unacceptable. We hope you agree.

Q

Can I save the movies to my hard-drive?

A

No. Movies must be viewed as they are being downloaded, or once they have completed downloading. If you close the movie window, you will need to download it again. Saving the movies for personal use is a violation of the terms and agreements when signing up.

Q

Can I zoom into the movies or expand to full-screen?

A

No. Movies are played in a pop-up browser window at 960x540 resolution. To increase their visible size, an easy option is to change your monitor resolution.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

Q

What if I have questions or need technical assistance?

A

If you need technical assistance at any time, you can find assistance simply by emailing help@gnomon3d.com. For distance education (online) students, you may also choose to email support directly through the LMS by finding “Support” in the student list for your course.

This email will be directed to our support specialist to have your issue resolved. These questions should be of a technical nature. Questions regarding operation of the LMS can also be addressed here.

Questions regarding simple “how-to’s” should be directed to your instructor or peers first. If there is a question that can not be answered by your instructor, you may direct your question to “support”, however, if the question is out of the scope of your current class, we reserve the right to direct you to take another course.

Your Instructor(s) have a 24 hour response window to respond to your inquiries.

While we appreciate your enthusiasm for learning, please limit your questions pertinent to the scope of the class you are enrolled in.
